My Birthday, part 2

Here's the next 5 packs I opened.

Pack 1:
#51-Johnny Bower*
#76-Andy Bathgate*
#1-Lord Stanley*
#7-Patrick Roy
cool, a Roy (my favorite non-Flyer goalie of all-time). Bathgate looks like a creeper, just sayin'.

Pack 2:
#29-Georges Vezina
#16-Theoren Fleury****
#43-Clark Gilles*****
#81-Mario Lemieux**
already opened the Lemieux, and the Fleury card I was hoping for. I do really like the brown borders, I'd like to see a black border but nobody has pulled one and put it on the internet.

Pack 3:
#77-Craig MacTavish
#3-Lady Byng
#8-Ron Hextall**
#83-Phil Esposito**
I have some complaints about this set that I'll share after I finish bustin' these packs.

Pack 4:
#64-Rick MacLeish***
#86-Mario Lemieux*
#31-Tony Esposito**
#38-Wayne Gretzky*
Another MacLeish (that makes 3) along with the same amount of #38.

Pack 5:
#77-Craig MacTavish**
#3-Lady Byng**
#46-Bobby Hull*
#1-Lord Stanley***
So kind of a bust on the last pack, no new cards.

*-already had
**-already opened from this box
***-both * and **
****-brown border
*****-already have brown border

I still like the set no matter how many Gretzky and Lemieux cards there are (it does annoy me a little).

My Birthday

was yesterday and I decided to go shopping online for cards. On Dave and Adam's Card World I found a box of 20 packs of the 2008-09 Legends Masterpieces set for $25 and I just had to get it. I was gonna open them 5 packs-a-day, but not opening packs all at once is like eating just one Lay's potato chip. Here's my first pack break on the internet.

Pack 1:
#16-Theoren Fleury
#87-Mark Messier*
#25-Lanny McDonald
#49-Brian Leetch

a good pack, I was hoping to get the Fleury and McDonald, an okay pack.

Pack 2:

#70-Rogie Vachon*
#64-Rick MacLeish*
#9-Richard Brodeur
#31-Tony Esposito

MacLeish, awesome, and Brodeur (not the gay one, his dad) in the old Canucks V-sweater.

Pack 3:

#53-Guy Lafleur*
#44-Scotty Bowman*
#66-Marty McSorley*
#12-Mario Lemieux*

okay, all doubles, that's cool though.

Pack 4:

#68-Dale Hawerchuk*
#24-Pat LaFontaine*
#81-Mario Lemieux
#84-Mark Messier

another Lemieux and another Messier in this set.

Pack 5:

#22-Cam Neely
#45-Glenn Anderson
#5-Jari Kurri
#8-Ron Hextall
#83-Phil Esposito

All new cards to me, and a Hextall card.

I love this set so much. The painting idea by Upper Deck is so smart, and to print it on a canvas was genius. Still looking for a couple cards like the Parent and the Sutters.

East/West Predictions, Part 2

wow. Montreal. disappointment. I was in awe of how terrible Washington played. Anyway, on to the predictions.

EAST
#6-Boston vs. #7-Philadelphia
Obviously Philly is gonna win and advance to play the ...

#5-pittsburgh vs. #8-Montreal
Montreal (not just because I hate the other team), Halak is playing so fantastic, he alone beat the highest scoring team in the league.

WEST
#1-San Jose vs. #5-Detroit
Detroit is so experienced and San Jose isn't getting much from anyone but Pavelski.

#2-Chicago vs. #3-Vancouver
tough one. Chicago won last year because of a hall of shame choke by Roberto Luongo. But the Sedins have really stepped it up since. I pick Vancouver in 7

Another Win!

Brian Boucher. Claude Giroux. To most hockey fans these names mean nothing, but they along with the likes of Mike Richards and Chris Pronger defeat the devils in 5 games. Wow, what an awful game for the devils, they played like a steamy pile of doo. I can't wait to see who we play next, possibly Washington's monstrous offense, pittsburgh's gayness (crosby and gonchar are totally screwing), maybe even... no I think thats it.

Flyers Win!

The Flyers won again last night, we are now 8-2 in ten games against the gay devils this year. One more game and we will (presumably) face Mike Knuble and the Washington Capitals in the second round. Unless, unless of course Montreal pulls 3 games out of their asses, then we would go against the Sabres (assuming they beat the Bruins).

List of Hate

This is my list of people, things, teams that I hate so f*cking much.

Sidney Crosby
Connor Passalaqua (fag from my old high school)
Martin Broedeur
Mike "Doc" Emrick (the doc is because he is a proctologist)
also, the rest of the crew at MSG Plus, and MSG, and FSN Pittsburgh
Ruslan Fedotanko
Martin St. Louis
the new Facebook
the 2004 Tampa Bay Lightning
New Jersey Devils
Pittsburgh Penguins
Stan Fishler
Yankee fans who hate Red Sox Fans
Red Sox fans who hate Yankee fans
the Red Sox and Yankees
Kerry Fraser (gay ref who recently retired [YAY])
Zach Parise
Daniel Briere
Buffalo Sabres
any ref who has ever robbed the Flyers of a call (every ref ever)
Scott Stevens
the Islanders of the '80s
U2
Tyler Perry
Bruce Springsteen
Queensryche
Rod Stewart
and Hugh Jackman

to tell you the truth, I have no problem with Hugh Jackman, it's a Scrubs thing, I don't think I've ever even seen him in any movie. But I digress, that's my list of hate in no particular order.

Play-off Hockey

Play-off time is such an amazing time of year. It's so crazy how every series started out tied with a game-a-piece. You have to give credit where credit is due and I'm giving credit to Phoenix, Nashville, Montreal, and Ottawa. All teams were given no chance (except Ottawa, whom I predicted to win), yet each team has won a game. Phoenix gets extra credit for winning two against the most dangerous play-off team in the west.

West Predictions

I've made my East predictions, now for the west.
#1-San Jose vs. #8 Colorado
San Jose; San Jose has had some play-off disappointment in the past, but with the addition of Dany Heatley (who helped lead Ottawa to the 2007 finals) their chances are better. Plus, Colorado is led by rookies like Matt Duchene and goalie (with no NHL play-off experience) Craig Anderson.

#2-Chicago vs. #7-Nashville
Now here is an easy pick. Nashville will probably not even get a win. The Blackhawks have Kane, Toews, Seabrook, and Niemi, who all (except the latter) helped Chicago to the conference finals last year. I really think Nashville doesn't have a chance in hell.

#3-Vancouver vs. #6-Los Angeles
Vancouver has a good chance at this one, as long as Luongo comes up big against Kopitar and Smyth. Jonathon Quick is one of many rookie goaltenders this season who has a starting job but with Daniel and Henrik Sedin on the ice for 23 minutes a game he needs to make a couple big saves. So my verdict: Vancouver.

#4-Phoenix vs. #5-Detroit
Phoenix is gonna need some huge goals from Doan and Wolski to take a few games in this series. Detroit's experience will win this series in six games. Uh-Oh! a number prediction. Zetterberg (my guess for Detroit's next captain after the great Lidstrom retires) will lead the team with Datsyuk.

So there are all of my predictions for the first round (pretty great, eh?).

East Predictions

As with every year I will predict the playoffs as they go round by round. This year I will share it with the world (or the one person (you) who stumbled across this blog).
How can I not start with the first and eigth seed. Watch me.
#2-New Jersey (gay) vs. #7 Philadelphia
I would have to go with the Philadelphia Flyers, the fan factor is a small fraction of why I chose them. The Flyers won the season series 5-1 and have a good history against the devils (the Flyers also beat the devils in 2004 with Rob Esche backstopping them to the Eastern Conference Finals).

#1-Washington vs. #8-Montreal
How can any person, even a Canadiens fan, believe the Habs can defeat the firepower of the mighty Capitals. The only way Montreal can win is if Jaroslav Halak turns out to be the next Patrick Roy or Tony Esposito. Ovechkin, Semin, Green, Knuble (former Flyer!), Laich, Backstrom and others are amazing offensivly and defensivly.

#3-Buffalo (gay) vs. #6-Boston
I can't really make an honest prediction on this one. I try as hard as I can to stay away from the Buffalo games on MSG, unless they are playing the Flyers. Whomever wins two games first will take the series (good odds, eh?).

#4-pittsburgh (I hate these pieces of s*** with a passion) vs. #5-Ottawa
Now, I think we all know that I hate the penguins especially the a-hole who will remain nameless (number 78 backwards). Ottawa doesn't have much of a chance with this one. That said, I pick the Sens (so much for being a professional, huh?).

So there ya have it, my East predictions for the first round. By the way, I HATE MY COMPUTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yaaa-Hooooooo!!!!!

The Flyers Are Going To Win! The Flyers Win! The Flyers Win! The Flyers Win The... seventh spot in the East. The game was the most exciting game that I have been (out of 9)! What an amazing game! I am still in the Holiday Inn next to the Philly Sport Complex, so I can't scan any pictures up, I will tomorrow. I also got: 2 50 flyer card sets (with a few doubles), a Parent shirt, a Giroux shirt (the GWG inspired me), a book (Orange, Black & Blue: The Greatest Philadelphia Flyers Stories Never Told) autographed by author Chuck Gormly, a Pronger puck, an 09-10 Upper Deck series 1 Blaster Box (I'll put that up later), a Shultz photo, a Timonen photo, some nachos, cotton candy, and I had the time of my life with my dad and my highly intoxicated mother. I'm gonna travel the historical Philadelphia today and take more pics.
