More on Chara

“I sincerely appreciate all of the support that I have received since my injury. I was disappointed that the NHL did not suspend Zdeno Chara. However, I have no desire for him to be prosecuted legally. I feel that the incident, as ugly as it was, was part of a hockey game."

-Max Pacioretty

Now here are a few replies to the Puck Daddy article on the subject.

KICKER says, "New England sports teams = CHEATERS first Patriots and now the Bruins what next the Red Sox CMON MAN quit cheating in New England."

Probably a bitter sports fan from NYC. I'm thinkin' the Giants lost to the Pats and the Rangers/Islanders lost to Boston. Let's not be territorial now.

Topher3134 says, "Yet another reason that the rest of the world hates french canadians!!! Put them all on a boat and ship them to france and get them out of our hemisphere! I hate you french canadians!!!"

Douchebag. Let's focus on the hit which involved a Slovak and an American. This quote seriously pisses me off.

David says, "I suppose the Montreal Police and Louis Dionne are will want a uniformed officer on skates during the games. The police need to take care of street crime and let the players play hockey. Don't get confused."

Other than the grammer, I totally agree with David.

A Yahoo! User says, "Air Canada=on a good day maybe 2 planes that work!"

Gary Bettman, in reply to Air Canada's threat, said that if they revoked their sponsorship, he would stop all teams from boarding Air Canada planes to travel. Oh Gary.

Brian W (76ers fan) says, "This has gone too far, it's not Chara's fault that Pacioretty hit his head in an unfortunate area of the ice. It just happened to be where the glass was sticking out. Quebec has nothing better to do."

Despite how right or wrong these people get, it apparently has nothing to do with hockey anymore. It's just Americans, Canadians, and Québécois fighting through hockey like children. Stop posting your racist comments on Youtube and Puck Daddy and whatever other websites you visit just so you can feel cool by saying 'frog' or 'f***in' cheating New England'. It's time to grow up.

Hey Quebec, You Can Calm Down

Seriously. The police. This has gotten out of hand.

Did Chara avoid suspension because he plays with Colin Campbell's son?
Here's your answer. Shut the hell up. Maybe Greg Campbell could avoid suspension, but a teammate? That's freakin' farfetched.

I think the Prime Minister should stop watching hockey games and start running a country.

Pacioretty said he was "disappointed" the league didn't suspend Chara, but he doesn't think legal action is neccesary.

Air Canada? "Oh no, we have to rename our rink. It's so bad because nobody would sponsor the Maple Leafs, in Canada." Yeah right.

Yes, I do think it is a shame that Pacioretty was injured that badly. Nobody wants to see that. But c'mon, let's think about this. Chara isn't that bad a guy. Even Ryan Smyth, who was hit into the stanchion himself, says that isn't suspension worthy.

And I'm absolutely disgusted by some of the anti-Canadian, anti-American, and anti-Bruin comments on Youtube. Go quick, because comments are flowing in every 4 seconds.

Why the Flyers Should Trade for Dustin Penner

Dustin Penner is a good hard-nosed player who plays in front of the net. He also can score 25 goals and 25 assists in a season. He scored 32-31-63 with Edmonton (worst team in the league) last year. He would be a perfect fit in Philly. Plus he played a crucial role in the Ducks (Pronger and O'Donnell) Stanley Cup win of 2007.

If Edmonton is looking for scoring and skill, goodbye Zherdev. If Edmonton is looking for grit and toughness, goodbye Hartnell. If Laviolette would rather play Carcillo or Shelley instead of a skilled player such as Zherdev (who is in the last year of his contract), then we might as well pick up some one who will play. As for Hartnell, he has about as many points as Penner (1 more) with double the stupid, unneeded penalties.

So to recap, trade for Penner - win the Stanley Cup.

Also, as for the Versteeg deal. It was stupid he is clearly not worth a first round pick, let alone a first and third. Just because he won a Cup last year doesn't make him an All-Star.

Flyers Have Skills

The Draft last night was pretty fun. The players all had a great time. Who else saw Ovie snapping a picture of Kessel being the only one left to be drafted.

Here's where the Flyers will be participating:
Briere (passing) - McDonald's NHL Accuracy Shooting™
Giroux (group 2) - G Series NHL Skills Challenge Relay™
Briere (group 2) - G Series NHL Skills Challenge Relay™

I can't stop laughing at the fact Briere will be passing. He'll probably try to wrap it around the net.

Either way the Skills is always entertaining.

2011 All-Star Game in Raleigh

The All-Star Game is coming up this weekend. I will watch it, as I have every year (post-lockout). What I'm looking forward to most is the Skills Competition tomorrow and the Guardian Project during the second intermission on Sunday.

Here's a few facts about this ASG:
-Chicago and Vancouver each have 3 forwards in the game, CHI also has 1 D-man (the most among individuals represented).
-Buffalo, Edmonton, Florida, and NYI have only 1 rookie participating this weekend.
-Calgary, with Iginla's withdrawl, have no players represented in Raleigh.
-Peter Laviolette will not coach former coachee Eric Staal, Ward still a possibilty.
-Chara has won the Hardest Shot three years in a row (MacInnis holds 4 in-a-row record).
-The last ASG two brothers played in at the same time; 2000 (Pavel, Valeri Bure).
-Two former ASG MVPs are playing in this years game, Briere and Eric Staal.
-Just five goalies and two defenseman have been named MVP since it's 1962 inception.
-Philadelphia has had one MVP; 1980, Reggie Leach.
-Panini will release Score redemption cards at the game; the cards have special ASG2011 logos on them.

Two Players in the News

Two stories about former NHLers have hit recently and I will decide who is right in their respective arguments.

First off, Evgeni Nabokov. Nabby was a mainstay in the Sharks
crease for a decade and was recently signed by Detroit. The Islanders being douchebags, understandable douchebags (but douchebags nonetheless), claimed him off waivers. Here's an idea Snow, it's called using your own scouting team and finding your own damn goalie. Evgeni was in the right, he wanted to go to Detroit (that is probably why he signed there in the first place), and he's not gonna find himself a Ring on the Island. Sure it was a little disrespectful, but let's look at this on the bright side, at least he's not Avery.

Evaluation: Nabokov 1 - Islanders 0

Next one. Peter Forsberg, former Flyer, is attempting yet another NHL comeback. Pete, I love ya, but seriously. If you are gonna comeback and it's not just another 'maybe, maybe not', then I can't wait to see you back where you belong. But when you're foot is healthy enough for NHL ice-time remember one thing, Garth Snow might snatch you up on the waiver wire.

Evaluation: Forsberg 1 - Garth Snow -2

In all of my yelling I forgot Snow was at one time a Flyer. But he was also a penguin and a mistake as a GM. All in favor to move the Islanders to Quebec, say I.

Pre-Game Report

I've sort of not been a Flyers blogger lately, so...

Tonight the Flyers face Boston for the third time this season. So far, the Flyers have been outscored 4-2. Yet, this has turned out to be a road-winning series thus far, which bodes well for Philly. The Flyers stank Power Play is tied at 17.2% with the Bruins this season. Also, Philly hasn't lost this calendar year.

Chris Pronger has been cleared to practice and is looking to get back into game action on Tuesday versus the Caps. Nik Zherdev didn't play Tuesday and is day-to-day. Milan Lucic is still out and will not play tonight.

The Guardian Project

The NHL has sold out, yes. But this is just a weird idea, as is the Fantasy Draft (which I'm still not sure what it is). But, as a Flyers blogger I feel obligated to link this video. The 'Penguin' and the 'Blackhawk' are neither a penguin nor a blackhawk. The King looks like a solid character, but the hair on the 'Hurricane' is just... The 'Flame' could be cool and so could the 'Thrasher'. The 'Duck' I'm sure is going to be lame and so is the 'Maple Leaf'. The 'Devil' could actually be kinda cool. While the 'Islander' and 'Ranger' will be the worst superheroes since She-Hulk and the Funky Flashman. The 'Flyer' looks funny, yet badass. So, I don't even know anymore.

Playing State Rival Again

For those who don't know, the game starts at 6:00 tonight. Laviolette smartened up and played Bobrovsky tonight. Also, Andreas Nodl is playing in his first game of the 2010-11 season. He has been swapped in for... Leino? Carcillo? I think it's the latter. Yes, Carcillo has been scratched so the power play... Nodl on the Power Play? I don't know what is going on but if we have to call up Andreas Nodl to play on the PP unit we're in trouble. How about we trade a certain bird-dog for someone who can stay on their feet. I hate the FSN Pitt play-by-play, color, people. They really put the anal in analyst.

Okay, So I'm A Little Pissed.

Not only does Philly's power play stink, but Laviolette went with Boucher. Again. Lavvy, I'm speechless.
Who else thinks Simon Gagne looks bad in blue. It just aint right.
Not only this, but I learned Tom Scholz is making a new album under the name Boston. Are you kidding me, Brad Delp (rest in peace) is deceased and you can't change the name. I mean Tom is the only original member left. Not only THAT, but there is a WOMAN in the damn band. AAAAAHHHHHH!!! Tom, I hope you don't think this album is going platinum, or gold for that matter.

I Thought Kerry Fraser Retired

Oh, he did you say. Well then who was that reffing the Flyers last night? Oh, none other than Chris "Kerry Jr." Lee. 41, PIM that is. 21 for Hartnell. That game was bogus. If we could've had 5 guys on the ice for more than half the game, we could've won. Maybe if our power play was better or even passable as a pro power play we might have scored more than one goal. Why Boucher? Bobrovsky is awesome, and I think Boucher can take not playing in two games, he's a big boy, and he backed up Nabokov before. For those who don't like Pronger, he had 26 power play points last season which was second on the team. How about Stepan's hat trick for the Rangers? pittsburgh lost again, and again in their new building.

Way to go Boys

The Flyers won their season opener in pittsburgh. Hey fleury, Suck It! Awesome play between the pipes for debuter Sergei Bobrovsky, for the first two periods that is. My fantasy team got 10 points for that display by the Flyers. But thanks to Kiprusoff, I didn't get all the points I could have. The Flames went 7-0 in the pre-season and they got shutout in the first game, disappointment.

Season Starts Tonight!

Laviolette decided to go with Bobrovsky, you know Bobrovsky-from... Russia. He did have a great pre-season. The Flyers as a whole had a terrific pre-season, they had the second best record (next to the undefeated Flames) in the NHL. Another question is, with the absence of Pronger, who will take that final d-spot, Walker or Bartulis? I do want the Latvian D-Man to take the cake on this one. Walker could add an extra bit of rough and toughness, but the Flyers have enough of the toughness eminating from their line-up. I guess I'm still bitter because of the Gagne trade, you know the one where we got jack-squat. Lappy is out and was told to retire due to his PCS. But I'm pumped for the game against the... why? Why must we start against (and in) pittsburgh. I've had enough of the whole pittsburgh thing (as stated in this article that I am not done posting about). Hopefully the Flyers win with a ton of goals, that would be a good present for my fantasy team, the Philly Phanatics.
Good luck Flyers!
(by the way, who saw Atlanta's pre-season performance, hahaha.)

New Element has been discovered!

Scientists in Utica searching for evidence of dinosaurs and bigfoot have discovered a new element for the periodic table. Most people wouldn't find this that interesting, but, the element was found on my property! I was having my scientist friends, Alan, Ellie, and Ian over for some tea and they, being the paleontologists they are, decided to go for a dig. When Alan found a couple bones I was less than impressed. But Ellie, the paleobotanist of the trio, found that the soil was of nothing she had seen before. A few (26.5) feet down into my yard, there was this strange material, a sand of which nobody knew. A few glances were passed and it was tested for anything. It was composed of an element no man had seen before. They, being generous, said "You name it, it was in your backyard." I insisted they name it, I mean having discovered it it would only be fair. I did end up naming it. Putting my blog on the map, Phillyphanium was published. I do love a good story, afterward Ian was killed in an awful accident when he was on vacation in Costa Rica. It was in the news. That was a good tale, a classic if you will. They said they wanted to make a movie of it. I said, "If so, get me George Lucas."

Finally!!!

The Flyers pre-season kicks-off tonight on the NHL Network USA. During the first period the broadasters, Coatesy, Jones, and Jackson (the latter of which was born in upstate NY, graduated from SU, broadcasted for the Utica Devils) had their normal banter back for the 10-11 season. Jackson mentioned Clinton, NY native Nick Palmieri as he had an early chance.
Nick Palmieri is from central New York, the HQ of Philly Phan

Thanks to Hockey Jersey Concepts, here's a look at the Flyers new road jersey for the upcoming season.
Looks good.

Our old friend

Nothing big to talk about lately so why not a short article.

Our old friend Rod Brind'Amour has retired this summer. Probably one of the most jacked players of all-time, Rod has one Stanley Cup to his name. He is now the Carolina Hurricanes Director of Forwards Development. The team will retire his number in a game against our Philly boys in October.

The Official Philly Phan T-Shirt

CustomInk.com is a wonderful thing. This is the official Philly Phan In New York Shirt, created by me, in my spare time, which I have too much of. The name on the back is a memorial to my old friend, Kinger, R.I.P.

BTW, Kovalchuk's contract was accepted and he's a Devil for 15 years.

UPDATE: I received an E-mail from Custom Inks Marketing Coordinator, and he showed sent me a link for Custom Hockey T-Shirts. Check it out.

The Latest

Just some updates today...

Well, Bill Guerin might play with the Flyers in training camp.

Also, the Sharks, who have signed former Flyer-goalie Antero Niittymaki early this Summer, have signed Antti Niemi, and I think we all know who that is.

Mike Comrie has been signed by the penguins. Why do the penguins have to ruin players I like: Kunitz, Ponikarovsky, Malkin, Fedotanko... Okay, I've always hated Fedotanko.

Kovalchuk. Kovalchuk will probably not be signed. The NHL keeps putting it off and the Devils should just drop it. Its not like he's Rick Nash or Alex Ovechkin. I think Los Angeles should get workin' a contract proposal for the overpaid Russian.
Also, the ice of the Wells Fargo Center (formerly known as the Wachovia Center) has been painted. That's all the news I have for you now. Stay Classy, Planet Earth
